Moxibustion or Moxa uses the power of herbs and heat to activate blood flow and intensify the function of energy circulation (Qi) within the body. The process entails the burning of cones made from Mugwort plant on areas of the body to accomplish precise healing effects. While this process may sound painful, it is not. During the procedure patients experience gentle warmth from a stick of moxa that is held close to the skin to warm the acupoint. Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with this treatment to stimulate the body. Moxa is used to relieve fatigue, diarrhoea, asthma, lower back pain, rheumatic pain, and some gynaecological disorders.
